Birth Doula Package

Our Birth Doula Package includes three prenatal visits, day-of support starting whenever you decide you need it, and 1 postpartum visit to debrief.

Prenatal

Three 90-minute prenatal visits provide space for us to get to know each other, build your birth plan, and talk through our approach for the day of your birth. I recommend completing the final visit two weeks prior to your due date.

Two Weeks Prior

Beginning two weeks prior to your due date, I will be on call for your birth. While on call, I will not travel more than two hours away from my house, be out of cell range, or be otherwise unavailable (except in the case of an emergency). During this period, I will continue to provide call and text support, and will respond to any messages within two hours, regardless of the time of day or night. Don’t be shy; lots of questions come up in those weeks leading up to birth, and I am here for you through all of them!

Day-of

Day or night, when you go into labor, let me know! If you’re not sure, reach out anyway and we’ll figure it out together. If I know as soon as labor starts, I can more accurately help you track your progress, and it gives me time to set up childcare, catch a nap, and pack snacks!

I will continue to provide phone and text support, and will come assist you in person whenever feels right for you. If you’d like to labor alone for a while, I can meet you at the hospital when you are admitted. If you prefer support during early labor (many do!), I will happily meet you at your home.

Once I’m there, I will stay with you for the duration of your birth unless you request otherwise. For births where I am present for over eight hours, I reserve a short break for self care. I will always make sure that you are supported during that time, and if you need me when I’ve stepped away, I will return immediately. I will also make sure to create space for your partner to tend to their own own self care so that we can both be at our best for you.

After your child is born, I will remain with you for two to three hours to help protect your golden hour, support your chosen feeding method, and offer guidance about basic postpartum care.

Postpartum

At some point in the two weeks after your birth (you decide when you feel ready), I will provide an in-person debrief. I’ll drop by with a meal for your freezer and some lactation bars and we’ll reflect on your birth experience. This is your time to ask any questions you may have, talk about any feelings that have come up, or just enjoy some well deserved praise for what you’ve accomplished! I can also hold the baby so you can shower, provide basic newborn care tips, and help with breastfeeding challenges (or refer you to a Lactation Counselor or IBCLC).

Birth Photos/Video

I am not a professional photographer, but I am happy to capture photos and video on the day of your birth if you would like. These images can serve as powerful reminders of the birth of your family and the hard, worthy work that you did to bring your baby into the world.

Ongoing Phone & Text Support

Throughout the duration of our engagement, I will be available for phone and text support. Prior to the on call period, my response times may vary but will always be same-day. During the on call period, I will respond as soon as possible, always within two hours.

Basic Childbirth Education

One session, either in your home or virtually, where we cover how to know you are in labor, the stages, how to keep labor progressing, the first few hours postpartum, basics of postpartum care, and basics of infant care.

NOTE: I am not a certified childbirth educator. There are lots of excellent childbirth education classes offered by other individuals/organizations that take myriad approaches. Our time together is intended to help you figure out the very basics of the birth process so that you can determine which direction to continue your childbirth education journey.

Birth Plan Guidance

Over the course of three prenatal visits, I’ll guide you through uncovering your ingrained ideas about birth and defining your goals for your own.

Homecoming

I’ll meet you at your home and tidy up any remnants of a hasty departure, bring a home-cooked meal for your freezer, help get everyone fed, showered, and tucked in, help unpack hospital bags, and run any last minute errands.
